While the Notre Dame football season isn’t going exactly as Marcus Freeman and company hoped, one of its former stars appears to be hitting his stride. And despite missing some time last season, it doesn’t appear Kyren Williams has missed a beat.

The former Irish running back, who is now a member of the Los Angeles Rams is, in fact, showing that he’s still the man the team should turn to on offense. Whether that’s on the ground or through the air out of the backfield.

The former Notre Dame football star made a real statement this past Sunday. It was his performance that really handed the Rams a win over the vaunted San Francisco 49ers.

In fact, Williams was the star of the show in such a big way that he scored all three touchdowns in the 27-24 victory for the Rams. Two of those were on the ground and he also had a receiving touchdown. Those numbers now mean that as Tyler Horka pointed out, Williams has scored 20 touchdowns in 25 games.

In addition to the three touchdowns on Sunday afternoon, Williams ran for 89 yards on 24 carries. He also caught 2 passes for 27 yards and the aforementioned touchdown.

While Williams had a great Sunday, it was easily the best performance of the early 2024 campaign. In fact, there was almost certainly some fans wondering if his second season, which was a breakout campaign, was a fluke.

The runningback had just 50 yards on 18 carries in the season opener. Though he did add a rushing TD. In Week 2, a 41-20 loss to Arizona, he had 12 carries for just 25 yards. However, considering the former Notre Dame football star has a nose for the end zone, he’s still scored at least one time in every game so far this season.

His 84 yards on Sunday could show his game is back on the upswing and will start to match the kind of production he had in 2023 when he rushed for over 1,100 yards and 12 touchdowns.
