Notre Dame football: Mike Brown needs to show what he can do
When Mike Brown was hired this winter, it was mostly seen as an upgrade at the wide receiver coach position. The the Irish went out and got him some weapons in Beaux Collins and Kris Mitchell and others.
However, despite Brown being almost universally considered a very good coach, the Irish receiver recruiting has struggled mightily this spring and summer.
All of that means that it’s time for Brown to show what he can do. It’s time to show that he brings something very valuable to the table for Notre Dame football. The good news is that there’s every indication he’ll do exactly that.
Notre Dame football waiting for Mike Brown to do his thing
Notre Dame is expecting new offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock and Brown to work together to turn around the Irish pass game. Brown is going to be an essential part of that, and it's why Freeman hired him.
Brown has shown an ability to maximize the talent he has on the roster, and has shown he places a premium on teaching the nuances of the position. He was working with good talent at Cincinnati, and his unit was deep, fundamentally sound and competitive.
The last time the two men coached together, at Cincinnati, Brown produced a second round (Alec Pierce), a third round (Tre Tucker) and a fourth round (Tyler Scott) draft pick. In their three seasons together, Cincinnati went 33-5, including 22-2 in their final two seasons together. In 2021, their last season together, Cincinnati averaged 39.2 points per game in the regular season, went 13-0 and advanced to the College Football Playoff.
Notre Dame football fans will absolutely take that.
