Notre Dame football officially on 'flip watch' as top commit predicted as gone

Notre Dame football fans have had to hear about concerns that quarterback Deuce Knight might move on for months now. Until recently, it seemed like those rumblings were just the usual recruiting soap opera drama. Things might have changed this weekend.

Things really seemed to change when the Auburn Tigers got into the picture. The Fighting Irish seemed to be fighting off the Ole Miss Rebels. They seemed to have won that battle, but now, another SEC power is in the picture and that picture changed.

According to On3 national recruiting analyst Steve Wiltfong, the Tigers won the fight. He issued a Fong Bomb on Monday evening saying he believes Knight will flip from the Notre Dame football team to Auburn.

“​​Obviously, we’ve been reporting for a little while now that we think Auburn is the team with the momentum in the Deuce Knight recruitment, and now my On3 RPM reflects that,” Wiltfong said. “I think Big Cat Weekend was a great experience. And I think playing in the SEC is a big factor for him.”

The Irish are not out of the running by any stretch. Every analyst knows that Knight does really like what Marcus Freeman and Gino Guidugli bring to the table. There’s a reason he’s always repping the Golden Domers to other recruits.

It’s also true that when it comes down to the bottom line, he’s an SEC kid. He’s a Mississippi native who obviously knows the SEC more than he knows the midwest.

When it comes right down to it, it might simply be that South Bend is too far away from what he knows. Even if he knows joining the Notre Dame football will make him a hero in his new town. The question now is that if he does flip, can Freeman and company reverse it before December?
