Notre Dame football officially projected to leap back into College Football Playoffs
There was a time when people thought the Notre Dame football team had taken itself out of the College Football Playoffs race with its loss to Northern Illinois. However, it looks like they are at least back in the running thanks to a win over Louisville and a jump a few spots in the rankings to No. 14.
Not long after the latest polls released, some analysts started releasing their revised playoff field and the Irish are indeed in the thick of things. However, they aren’t getting the high seeds that might have allowed them to host a home game and make a darkhorse run to the finals. At the moment though, we’ll take just getting on.
On3 released its latest playoff projections and Notre Dame football does get in as the 11-seed. In other words they just barely squeak in.
“The loss to Northern Illinois is still fresh on everybody’s mind because that was such a shocking loss, but Notre Dame took care of business against Louisville on Saturday. Remember, many thought Louisville would be one of the toughest tests on the Irish’s schedule. Notre Dame has to travel to USC in its season-finale, but it’ll likely be favored for the rest of its games leading into that trip to Los Angeles on Nov. 30. Notre Dame’s schedule is really manageable.”
Notre Dame football back in the fight for playoffs
As the number 11 seed, On3 does acknowledge that the Irish are just barely squeaking in. They are officially listed as the “Last four in”
Notre Dame football fans will absolutely take that at this point. Though the Irish standing could get a lot better if they and USC both go undefeated for the rest of the season for when they match up in the regular season’s final full weekend.
