Notre Dame football DL returns to help Irish defense reload
The Notre Dame football team is having quite a December. The team has added a couple of offensive weapons, with Riley Leonard being the key piece. But he isn't the puzzle piece that Marcus Freeman and company have added.
The way that the Irish are reloading for 2024 isn't just about bringing in new bodies though. There's also a number of players that were big contributors in 2023 that will be back in 2024. One of the newest returnees announced he's coming back to Notre Dame football earlier this week.
Rylie Mills took to social media with a video of his highlights while adding the caption, "I got one more in me." In doing so, Mills returns to an interior of the defensive line that was a major strength for an Irish defense that was one of the nation’s best this season. Notre Dame finished the season ranked 8th in scoring defense, 8th in total defense and 5th in yards allowed per play.
Mills himself had a very good season for that top of the line defense. He had 45 tackles, 2.5 sacks and two forced fumbles. According to Pro Football Focus, he finished the season with an overrall grade of 78.4 and a 78.2 defensive passrush grade.
Notre Dame football looking for even bigger season from Rylie Mills
While Mills had a solid season, it wasn't quite as big a blockbuster as irish fans had hoped he'd have. Now he's going to get another chance to team up with Howard Cross III and really put together one heck of a run.
The Notre Dame football team has lost some offensive firepower in running back Audric Estime. However, they're hoping to add another defensive star to the fold in Xavier Watts. At this point, he's the one Notre Dame is waiting for to mak a decision but Rylie Mills coming back is still a big boost.
