Now that Notre Dame Football has wrapped up its spring practice with the Blue-Gold Game, the new season begins. No, we’re obviously not at the college football regular season just yet. However, we’re now smack dab in the middle of portal watching season.

Going into the Blue-Gold game, there was likely a home among the Fighting Irish fandom that one of the three quarterbacks vying for the backup quarterback job would separate themselves. That way, telling who might step into the portal would be easier. It’s the same philosophy as pulling the bandaid right off instead of waiting until April 30 to see who leaves.

Instead of separately themselves, the Notre Dame Football quarterback race looks neck and neck. That’s good for Marcus Freeman and company as far as depth. It's not good to tell who might be on the way out. However, Steve Angeli might have tipped his fan shortly after the scrimmage.

“We have a really strong room,” Angeli said after the practice. “I’m really excited for fall camp.”

Notre Dame Football quarterback hints at portal plans

The prevailing theory basically since spring practice began, is that one of Steve Angeli and Kenny Minchey would enter the portal by the time it ended. With Riley Leonard cemented as the starter, Notre Dame Football is awash in talented quarterbacks, especially after CJ Carr’s performance on Saturday.

Those comments seem to hint that Angeli isn’t the one who is leaving. Though he’s also thought to be the odds on favorite to be the backup.

That was before Minchey wowed people with his ability to run and pass in the Blue-Gold Game. All three quarterbacks had a great game, Angeli did the least to help his cause, simply because he only performed like people expected.

If Angeli thinks he lost ground, it appears he’s not going out without a fight.

Of course, things can change between now and then. Maybe he was just saying what he knew people wanted to hear. Or he was hinting that the Notre Dame Football quarterback fight is going to have him around to compete this fall.
