A move that has been in the works for a while is now official. Former Notre Dame football offensive coordinator Tommy Rees is now in the NFL. The move might seem to be a bit of a lateral move at first, though for an assistant coach that’s moved up the ranks fast, he’s now got a foot in the door in the top football league in the world.

Tommy Rees is now the offensive line coach and passing game coordinator for the Cleveland Browns. His hiring is part of a larger reshaping of the Browns’ staff. That there are so many changes is a bit of a surprise, considering Kevin Stefanski’s crew won 11 regular season games and made the playoffs.

Rees's latest career move comes after a few months where he's seen his name brought up quite a bit. Though it hasn't always been brought up in a positive way. Most recently he drew quite a bit of ire from college football fans all over the world for having a part in Alabama losing to Michigan in the college football semifinals.

Not long after he took an overwhelming amount of the blame for Alabama's loss to the Wolverines, it suddenly looked like he might take over the head coaching job. Rees was mentioned as being one of the favorites to take over for Nick Saban after he retired.

Former Notre Dame football coach moves to Cleveland

When Kalen Deboer was hired instead of Rees, the former Fighting Irish offensive coordinator found himself without a job. That was until Monday.

That was when the Browns made their coaching hires official. In addition to naming Tommy Rees the tight ends coach and passing game coordinator, they also announced that Duce Staley was the team's new running backs coach and Jacques Cesare is the new defensive line coach.

The former Notre Dame football offensive coordinator appears to be moving up the ranks. It will be interesting to see where his career goes from here.
