As the Notre Dame football team preps for the 2024 season, the Irish aren’t laying off on recruiting. However, it looks like at least one player that might have been on the Irish radar has decided not to wait around.

Owen Lansu is a talented 2026 quarterback prospect out of Illinois that at least had Notre Dame on his radar. There were some conversations between the two sides over the winter. However, he’s decided to stop waiting to see if Marcus Freeman and company are going to offer. Over the weekend, he pulled the trigger for the Minnesota Golden Gophers.

Potential Notre Dame football target takes himself off the board

"First off, I'd like to thank God because without him none of this would be possible. I'd lake to thank my parents and my sister for always motivating and supporting me through my entire football journey, he posted on X. "I'd like to thank the entire DGN football coaching staff for believing in me and pushing me to be the best version of myself."

"I'd like to thank Coach Fleck, Coach Harbaugh, and the entire Minnesota football staff for this incredible opportunity," he continued. "With that being said, I'd like to announce that I have committed to the University of Minnesota!! Ski-U-Mah!! RTB!!"

This obviously isn’t a massive loss for the Fighting Irish as they have Noah Grubbs in the fold. However, it’s never bad to have a backup plan just in case.

Listed at 6-foot-1, 185 pounds, Owen Lansu threw for 2,106 yards and 26 touchdowns last season as a sophomore, which was his first as a full-time starter at the varsity level.

For a while there, it looked like Owen Lansu might have been a Plan C or Plan D, if not a Plan B, should they need one. For the moment, it appears he’s decided that he’s going to be Plan A for Minnesota instead.
