Not only is the Notre Dame football team supposed to be good in 2024, they’re supposed to be a shoo-in for the playoffs. It should be a shock to no one at all that the reason they’re expected to be so good is the amount of talent on the roster.

Athlon Sports, a reputable source, has recently published a report that delves into the depth of talent in the Notre Dame football team. It's revealed that only a handful of teams can match their prowess on both offense and defense.

According to the publication, the Notre Dame football team boasts 5 pre-season All-Americans. This is just one of the many reasons why the Irish are expected to be among the best for the upcoming season, a fact that should ignite excitement and optimism in the hearts of the fans.

Notre Dame football has quintet of preseason All-Americans

Defensive tackle Howard Cross III was Notre Dame's only position player to earn first-team honors from Athlon. Cross was named a first-team defensive lineman, which isn't a surprise after he earned second-team honors following the 2023 season.

Kick returner Jayden Harrison was named to the first-team squad as a specialist. Considering that he’s one of the newest members of the Irish that has to make fans excited to see what he can do.

Harrison averaged 30.7 yards on 23 kick returns last season, including two that he returned for touchdowns. In the secondary, Cornerback Benjamin Morrison was named a second-team defensive back and  safety Xavier Watts was named to the second team as well. That’s more than a little bit of a surprise considering he was a first-team All-American to end the 2023 season after recording 7 interceptions.

The fifth and final Golden Domer to make the Athlon list was tight end Mitchell Evans. He was on his way to an impressive 2023 before getting hurt with a few weeks to go.

Now that we have a better idea of the players the Notre Dame football team will be carried to the finish line by, it will be interesting to see if they can perform as expected.
