Trio of Notre Dame Fighting Irish stars named to Women’s Naismith watch list
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish women’s basketball team is one of seven programs, alongside South Carolina, UConn, USC, UCLA, Texas and LSU, that has three or more players on the 2024-25 Naismith Women’s Player of the Year watch list.
The who’s who of power programs in the country means that it shouldn’t come as a surprise that each team has more than one player. However, it does seem like an important thing to point out just how much talent ND has entering this season.
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are represented by sophomore guard Hannah Hidalgo and senior guards Olivia Miles and Sonia Citron among the 50 total players from across the country. All three of those players have also been named to other award watch lists as they’re all considered among the very best in the sport.
Notre Dame Fight Irish trio get big honor
The three stars will be extremely important in getting the Irish in where they want to go.
Perhaps we’ll get a good look at just how good the team is early in the season. The early schedule includes some real tough opponents including UConn, USC and Texas all in the first month.
Before the season officially starts next Monday against Meryherst, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish played an exhibition game against Davenport. That game ended up being a 60-point win, 101-41 where Miles and Hidalgo both dominated. Citron, unfortunately sat out due to injury. Perhaps the most concerning note about that was she was one of five players who missed the tune-up due to injury.,
