The way that the Notre Dame football team has been working with the 2027 class is grabbing all kinds of eyeballs. With quarterback Tedd Jarrard already a commit, Marcus Freeman and Co. are focusing on getting him some big-time talent to surround him with. That includes 4-star safety Zayden Gamble.
Gamble, the No. 16 player in Florida and No. 17 safety in the 2027 class according to the Rivals Industry Rankings, is out of St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, FL). At the moment, analysts believe he's headed to the Miami Hurricanes. However, with Notre Dame making him an offer, the Fighting Irish definitely has his attention.
"The offer surprised me because Notre Dame is on another level," Gamble reportedly told On3's Mike Singer. "It’s a top-tier program." Those words are certainly something that Fightinag Irish fans have to be excited about. It certainly looks like Freeman's crew officially has their foot in the door.
Strong relationships, not Notre Dame football geography will guide Zayden Gamble's decision
That doesn't mean that the fight for the talented safety is anywhere close to over. Florida State recently jumped into the fight as well as they've made up ground quickly. According to FSU Wire, the Irish might have their work cut out for them against Florida schools, but location isn't the thing that will determine where he goes.
“Relationships are my number one thing," Gamble reportedly said. "I’m not looking at so much of what school is talking to me, but more so what relationship I have best with the coaches ... Taking ten seconds out of your day to text me means something."
The fight for Gamble is almost certainly going to take some time. The talented safety continues to show he's one of the best in the country, even lining up an appearance in January's Navy All-American Bowl.
If he does pull the trigger for the Notre Dame football team, it wouldn't be out of the question to expect him to wait to do so until that game.
