Recruiting: Tevon Coney Evaluation
By Andrew Hall
Notre Dame welcomes several important prospects for this weekend’s game against Michigan. One of those prospects is Palm Beach Gardens, Florida Linebacker Tevon Coney. Coney decides between Notre Dame and Florida this month. If Notre Dame lands Coney, what type of player would end up in South Bend?
Offers
Coney holds 28 offers from FBS schools. The most significant offers include Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Miami (FL) and Ohio State. Coney does not possess the offers of an elite national recruit. But, he appears to be a regional to national recruit. Coney hails from one of the best football regions in the nation. The fact that every school in that area wants him is a great sign.

Recruiting Services
247Sports rates him as a 4-star recruit. They do not rank him nationally. However, they do rank him as the 11th best Inside Linebacker in his class. Rivals ranks him identically to 247Sports. ESPN also rates Coney as a 4-star recruit. They rank him as the 19th best Outside Linebacker in the Class of 2015. Considering the amount of offers Coney has collected, it begs the questions as to why he is not a top 250 recruit.
On Film
Speed, athleticism and hustle are the name of the game for Tevon Coney. He makes most of his best plays when he moves downhill and the scheme allows him to be aggressive. His best attribute at this point in his career is probably his pass rushing ability. However, he does an excellent job against the run. Coney’s pass coverage will be an area of improvement as he moves forward.
Overall
Coney is a solid Linebacker who holds all the physical tools needed to be successful in college. He will need to round himself out to become an every down player. The recruiting services probably rate a little low. Coney will contribute on special teams his first year at whatever school he selects. If he selects Notre Dame, he will be ideally suited for Will Linebacker position. However, the Sam Linebacker position could be a destination as well.
