Notre Dame Football Recruiting: How Does Notre Dame Finish The 2015 Class?
By Andrew Hall
Notre Dame currently holds commitments from 21 prospects in the 2015 class. With Signing Day less than three months away, the 2015 class is quickly coming to a close. How will the Fighting Irish finish this class? Who will end up signing with Notre Dame on the February 5th?
Scholarship Numbers
As the class sits right now, the 2015 Notre Dame football team possesses more players on their roster than scholarships available. Which 85 players will take the field against Texas on September 5th? Almost every year Notre Dame has a transfer, de-commitment or career-ending injury. Kelly and the staff are likely banking that one of these scholarship cutting occurrences will happen before the fall of 2015. Jarrett Grace may need to take a medical redshirt if he cannot overcome his leg injury. Ronnie Stanley could bolt to the NFL (projected in the 3rd Round by WalterFootball.com). An underutilized player could transfer out of the program. Regardless, Notre Dame is still pursuing prospects in this class. Kelly could sign as many as 25 prospects in February.

Running Back
Notre Dame definitely wants one more Running Back in this class. The Fighting Irish already hold a commitment from Pennsylvania Running Back Josh Adams. If Notre Dame only signs Adams, they would only have three Running Backs on their roster (Folston, Bryant and Adams). Kelly hopes to sign Soso Jamabo but that is less guaranteed than it was in September. Because of the uncertainty with Jamabo, Notre Dame hosted Cameron Scarlett and Nicholas Brossette on October 4th.
Wide Receiver
The Fighting Irish still want to sign one more big bodied receiver in the mold of Corey Robinson. The Irish are battling for Equanimeous St. Brown, Alize Jones and Lawrence Cager. St. Brown and Jones already visited campus. Cager and Jones both have official visits scheduled for December.
Defensive Line
Notre Dame desperately needs an elite Defensive End in this class. However, the options are very slim. The Irish hosted top Defensive Ends Mekhi Brown and Porter Gustin this fall. But, neither seem likely to sign with the Fighting Irish in February. Will another option open up in the 11th hour? Based on Notre Dame’s track record under Brian Kelly, a prospect will likely emerge.
Defensive Back
Defensive Back options are much more plentiful than along the Defensive Line. Calvin Brewton, Frank Buncom IV, Hunter Dale and Ykili Ross all possess a significant amount of interest in the Fighting Irish. Notre Dame needs to land a Defensive Back just as badly as they need a Running Back. The Irish roster only features three Safeties. Two, Prentice McKinney and Nicco Fertita, are committed. Another commitment would give Notre Dame excellent depth at the position.
Notre Dame Football Recruiting Prediction
Notre Dame will land Tight End/Receiver Alize Jones, Cornerback Ykili Ross (this weekend), Running Back Soso Jamabo and a Defensive End not currently on the recording board in Gug.
