Notre Dame Has Had An “Uneventful” National Signing Day, And That’s Okay

This 2015 National Signing Day has been somewhat uneventful, as the Notre Dame Fighting Irish haven’t had some of the surprises they have in the past (See Gunner Kiel). But those late changes don’t always translate to great things (See Gunner Kiel, again).

More from Football Recruiting

Much of the 2015 class was decided a while ago, but a few dramatic choices were left to be made. Running back Dexter Williams chose the Irish over the Miami Hurricanes, giving them a talented speed back.

Equanimeous St. Brown out of Anaheim, CA has now joined the list of Notre Dame commitments, as the Irish grab the No. 9 WR overall, and their eighth from the ESPN 300.

Iman Marshall, a cornerback out of Long Beach, CA still has Notre Dame on his short list, but the Irish are figured towards the end of the list, with Southern Cal the favorite.

The Irish made it a priority to address the linebacker and cornerback positions, as eight of their commits come from those two positions. With a defense that was decimated by injury last year, this was the first year of Brian Van Gorder having a full season of recruiting, and a chance to rebuild the defense.

The depth chart was tested last season, and clearly exposed – but it also gained valuable game experience. With this class, the 2015 team could by far be coach Brian Kelly‘s most talented, and expectations will be high.

Most will have their eye on the quarterback position as we enter the spring, as Malik Zaire and Everett Golson (if he doesn’t transfer), will battle it out for the starting signal-caller. And this year’s incoming freshman Brandon Wimbush has all the tools to compete, but will likely have be redshirted to gain experience in the system.

Continue following us as we’ll have more National Signing day coverage, as well as having analysis of the new class in the coming days.
