Notre Dame football recruiting is full-speed ahead as it races to the early Signing Day. The Notre Dame football team got significantly better on Tuesday evening.

For months, Notre Dame failed to land great talent at the Cornerback position. In a little over a month, the Fighting Irish staff landed three prospects. The most recent commitment is the best and brightest at the spot, Houston Griffith. Perhaps, he is the best in the class.

Griffith originally hails from the Chicago area. However, he attends the prestigious football factory, IMG Academy. He stands at 6’1″ and weights in at 192 lbs.

The 247Sports composite ranks Griffith as 63rd best player in the 2018 class. Currently, he ranks as the top prospect in the Irish class. Fellow commitments, Phil Jurkovec, Derrik Allen, and Kevin Austin, rank 66th, 69th and 73rd according to the 247Sports composite.

Griffith originally committed to Florida State on Oct. 8th. Following Jimbo Fisher’s departure to Texas A&M, he began to rethink his commitment. He de-committed from the Seminoles on November 29th.

That is when things began to heat up between the Irish and Griffith. He visited Notre Dame prior to his commitment to Florida State. Griffith pulled the trigger for Notre Dame.

He selected the Fighting Irish over 37 offers including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon, Penn State, Tennessee, Texas, UCLA, and USC.

Griffith might play early for Notre Dame. However, he faces a lot of competition. Currently, Sophomore Julian Love, Junior Shaun Crawford, Sophomore Troy Pride and possible 5th-year Senior Nick Watkins. This does not include Sophomore Dante Vaughn.

A player with the talent of Griffith might jump immediately into the depth chart. Love might be the only current Irish player who has locked down his spot. Aside from Love, no players look like slam-dunk starters for the 2018 season.

Notre Dame currently holds commitments from 19 prospects and rank 6th in the country.
