With so much happening around spring football at Notre Dame, it is easy to lose track of some of the younger talent on the team. With CJ Carr creating connections with new talent, Mylan Graham, and also looking at who will take over the running back position, the younger guys have been able to fly under the radar.
It is hard to fly under the radar, though, when you make crazy acrobatic catches like freshman wide receiver Devin Fitzgerald has. During a play with Noah Grubbs at quarterback, Fitzgerald ran a great route, and Grubbs threw a back-shoulder pass that Fitzgerald made a fantastic one-handed grab on.

The video almost doesn't do the catch justice, but it is apparently what came after the catch that fans will absolutely love. When Fitzgerald made the catch, head coach Marcus Freeman told the media that everyone on the sideline started chanting "Larry," which is Fitzgerald's father, one of the best wide receivers in NFL history.
Marcus Freeman says Notre Dame freshman wide receiver Devin Fitzgerald made such an acrobatic sideline catch today his Fighting Irish teammates started screaming, "Larry! Larry!"

Like father, like son.
If Devin can emulate his dad, then ND sure has a good one on its hands. pic.twitter.com/TMyAuA5lCI
Fitzgerald still has a way to go before he reaches his father's level of talent, but it is clear there are flashes of it in him right now. That was not an easy catch to make, but making it look easy is half the battle for a receiver.
The young freshman will have to battle for playing time in the beginning with guys like Graham adn returner Jordan Faison, who has also made some noise in spring ball. However, Freeman is always willing to play the guy who has earned the playing time, no matter what year they are.
If Fitzgerald can continue to progress and create a connection with starter quarterback CJ Carr, he could do himself a lot of favors. Fitzgerald still has a lot of time before the season starts to continue to get better, as does Notre Dame as a whole.
