Jeremiyah Love takes it to the house and then some for first TD of 12-team CFP era

Notre Dame football looked like it was on its heels a bit, and then Jeremiyah Love did what he does.

It turns out that Jeremiyah Love is healthy. Really, really healthy.

So healthy in fact that he gave the Notre Dame football its first lead of the College Football Playoffs. So healthy that he was able to carry the football for 97 yards for a touchdown just one play after Xavier Watts killed Indiana’s drive inside the Irish redzone.

The Notre Dame football running back officially holds the honor of having the first touchdown of the 12-team CFP field. And while he was running around and past everyone on defense, he was showing everyone in the stadium and everyone who tuned in that he’s the front runner for the 2025 Heisman.

Notre Dame football gets big boost from Jeremiyah Love

The touchdown following the Xavier Watts - who earlier this week was named a consensus All-American for the second straight year - picked off a pass from Indiana quarterback Curtis Rourke one play after the Hoosiers looked like they were on the verge of taking an important lead in South Bend.

Curt Cignetti’s squad was in that position thanks to a pass attempt by Riley Leonard that was tipped into the air by a defensive lineman and intercepted on the Notre Dame side of the 50.

Jeremiyah Love’s run seems to have cemented the early momentum in what could be quite the slugfest, possibly breaking the back of a team that hasn’t had to play from behind very often this season.

There was of course, some concern that Love might not be available for this game after the Notre Dame football team took on USC as he had to leave that game early with a leg injury. However, head coach Marcus Freeman made it clear that the start running back was ready to go this week.
