Monday was a big day for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on the recruiting trail. 4-star wide receiver Julius Jones Jr. announced earlier this month that he would make his commitment on ESPN’s Pat McAfee Show. What his family didn’t tell anyone is that his little brother, Andre Jones would pull the trigger on his commitment as well.

Julius Jr is a 4-star wide receiver, and Andre plays on the other side of the ball as a versatile defensive back. While he’s only a 3-star prospect at the moment, he’s also part of the 2028 class and has plenty of time for his profile to explode. Now both are committed to Marcus Freeman and Co.

Just moments after Julius Jones Jr. announced he’d committed to Notre Dame, the defensive back followed suit, and the Irish got two commits in the span of 10 minutes. In the process, the brothers became the 19th commit for the 2027 class and the second commit for the 2028 cycle, respectively. In the process, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish look like the Jones family will create quite a legacy in South Bend.

Notre Dame football looks ready to get its quarterback

While he didn’t follow suit and commit on Monday, it looks like it might only be a matter of time for 2028 quarterback prospect Trey Tagliaferri. Over the last two days, there have been more than a few expert predictions for the New Jersey gunslinger to give his pledge to the Golden Domers.

The quarterback had a breakout season as a sophomore in 2025. Last season, he completed 133-of-214 attempts, throwing for 2,212 passing yards and 29 touchdowns to just 3 interceptions.

In the 247Sports Composite, Tagliaferri is a 4-star prospect ranked No. 204 nationally, No. 14 at quarterback, and No. 9 in New Jersey. Should Notre Dame manage to land him, one of the most interesting aspects of his commitment would be the progress the Irish have made in establishing a Bergen Catholic pipeline in New Jersey.

More Notre Dame Fighting Irish news

  • Amid Notre Dame football’s massive official visitor weekend — which featured 18 recruits in the 2027 class — the Irish extended a new offer to one of the elite prospects in the 2029 cycle. Franklin (Tenn.) Battle Ground Academy wide receiver Maddox Porter announced an offer from Marcus Freeman’s program after unofficially visiting campus Sunday. At least 27 recruits in the 2029 class have now reported receiving a Notre Dame offer. In 2025, over 13 games, he caught 78 passes for 1,547 yards (19.8 yards per catch) and 27 touchdowns. He’s already got more than 30 offers, and the Irish are one of the newest.
  • It’s not all that new, but Ace Alston talked about his commitment to Notre Dame and made it clear once again that he couldn’t be happier in his decision. “I wouldn’t trade it in for the world. I’m truly blessed that I’m committed to Notre Dame and I’ll be going there in the future,” he told Rivals after his official visit this weekend.
  • While the Jones brothers are legacy commits, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish are going after another legacy running back. Xander Edwards is one of the best rushers in the 2028 class, and now the son of former Irish running back Marc Edwards has officially received an offer from Marcus Freeman.
