Notre Dame enters the race for stud QB who was 'almost brought to tears'

Notre Dame football is already pushing hard for its 2028 quarterback, and this early offer seems to have landed perfectly.

While the Notre Dame football team waits on the commitment of its top 2027 quarterback prospect, it's working hard to reel in its 2028 QB as well. Kingston Preyear could be that man, considering how much the Fighting Irish offer meant to him.

Quarterbacks coach Gino Guidugli reached out to Preyear earlier this week and gave him his official offer. According to the Alexander City, Alabama product, he became quite emotional. In fact, he told On3's Mike Singer, “It almost brought me to tears of joy.” He told Irish Sports Daily roughly the same thing, clearly thrilled about being just the second QB offered in the 2028 class.

Notre Dame football offer leaves Kingston Preyear emotional and firmly on the radar

“Man, I was shocked. Just to get recruited by Notre Dame is a blessing, but now that I have an offer and can actually possibly attend Notre Dame, it’s unreal.” He then went on to explain what exactly has him so excited. “It’s just the football. You’re playing on a super high level, and then you can get your education at an elite school. That education is top-notch. It could set me up for life.”

The 6-foot-3, 195-pounder visited South Bend earlier this spring, giving him an understanding of what the program offers. The No. 5 quarterback in the 2028 class getting blown away by that offer has to be a good sign for the Irish considering the other offers he's already garnered.

Auburn, Alabama, Vanderbilt, and Ole Miss are among the schools that have already come calling for the No. 64 player in the class, according to the Rivals Industry Rankings. Any other school might have a problem luring the gunslinger away from SEC country, but Notre Dame's prestige clearly creates its own pull for Preyear.

Notre Dame football now has a clear next step in the Kingston Preyear recruitment

Now that the Irish did come with an offer, the quarterback shed light on what next steps are. He wants to take another unofficial visit to campus. That visit will almost certainly feel a bit different with Preyear knowing he can commit anytime he wants. However, he also wants to make sure his family is comfortable with the school.

"Getting my mom back down there,” he said when asked what was most important to him at this point. “Letting my family check out campus and things like that.”

Notre Dame will almost certainly work quickly to get any member of Kingston Preyear's family who wants to come to South Bend. Marcus Freeman and Co. are extremely interested in scoring the talented quarterback for its 2028 recruiting class.
