The Notre Dame football team is set for next season at quarterback, whether it’s CJ Carr, Steve Angeli or Kenny Minchey behind center. It’s also got freshman Blake Hebert setting up as the next in line. It’s 2026 quarterback is also seemingly locked down with Noah Grubbs. And that means it’s time to look towards the future.
The Irish have started taking long looks at the 2027 class when it comes to signal-callers. There’s one of the best in the business in Trae Taylor giving South Bend a look, but Marcus Freeman and quarterbacks coach Gino Guidugli are dotting their eyes and crossing their T’s.
That’s why another top 2027 quarterback prospect in Malachi Zeigler has become an important target for the Notre Dame football team. And it’s why it was especially important when they were able to lock him down for a visit to campus in the coming months.
Thankful to God, our coaches and my teammates for a good sophomore season of varsity football. (8 games played)#LearningAndGrowing@coachmoore11 @coachtsmith14 @tigers_benton @DamianDevon @fitnesskingWash pic.twitter.com/W6u6BDL894

Notre Dame football locks down visit from 2027 quarterback Malachi Zeigler
Zeigler, a consensus 4-star quarterback out of Benton in Louisiana will be checking out what ND has to offer at the end of March. While he hasn’t gotten an official offer it seems likely that when he is in town on March 27 and 28.
Zeigler knows that the Fighting Irish are pretty far from his home. That’s why he’s looking at a two-day unofficial visit.
“We want to maximize the amount of time that we're up there,” he recently told Irish Sports Daily. “For two days, I feel like we'll have a great gauge of just how they interact with their quarterbacks and not necessarily with their starters, but with their bench players and how they treat the team as a whole and how the players respond.”
At the moment, Zeigler has around 12 offers, with On3 believing that Ole Miss is the team to beat. However, he’s bound to become more popular in the coming months. If and when Notre Dame football makes him an offer in March, it still won’t be the last, but Marcus Freeman and company are clearly interested in getting a foot in the door.
