Notre Dame football gets one more shot at top WR prospect it thought it lost

The Notre Dame football recruiting weekend just got a little bit bigger with a visit from a prospect it thought it lost the battle for earlier this year.

The Notre Dame football team's struggles in recruiting wide receivers have been well covered. However, the Fighting Irish could make up some lost ground this weekend.

Marcus Freeman and his group are looking for a massive recruiting Saturday that will include more than a few attempts to flip prospects from other teams. One such potential flip is the most interesting of the bunch, if only because the Golden Domers went hard after him before he committed to LSU.

Derek Meadows will be in South Bend on Saturday. He's been looking to flip to another team for a while now. And it appears that Notre Dame football has at least one more shot to make its case for him.

Even when the 6-6, 200-pound pass catcher committed to LSU in July, the Irish staff did not stop their pursuit of Meadows. Some assistants are incredibly high on the dynamic pass catcher and the upside that he brings to the table.

There's also the idea that the Irish need to make a big splash recruiting the position. For the future of the team's on-field success and hype in the recruiting rankings. Meadows is considered a top-100 recruit by both 247Sports and Rivals. 247Sports ranks him highest, currently sitting as the No. 46 overall player, No. 7 wide receiver, and No. 1 player from Nevada in the 2025 recruiting class. The talented athlete is pegged as the No. 80 overall player in the class on the On3 Industry ranking.

Despite being a good sign for this Notre Dame football program that Meadows is making this return trip, and on his own dime. However, it's still implausible that he'll flip. This trip is almost certainly Meadows making sure LSU is where he wants to go. But Marcus Freeman and his gang have one more shot to try and prove to him that South Bend is where he should go.
