The Notre Dame football team is on quite a tear on the recruiting front. The Irish have scored at least one commit every day this week, and Thursday was no different. This time, said commitment came from 2028 quarterback Trey Tagliaferri.
Tagliaferri is ranked as the No. 204 nationally, No. 14 QB, and No. 9 in New Jersey. He’s from Bergen Catholic, which is becoming a pipeline for the Irish and has been one for the last few years. This cycle, Tagliaferri’s teammates, Amil and Adrian Woodward, also have offers from Marcus Freeman and Co. Jackson Vaughn has also already given his pledge to the team. The New pipeline only keeps growing, and in the case of the recent QB commit, the Irish moved incredibly fast in order to secure it.
Notre Dame didn’t offer Tagliaferri until June 3, but wanted to make sure and get the signal caller on campus. More importantly, they wanted to get him on campus before the dead period that started on June 22, which doesn’t allow for face-to-face contact. So they got him the weekend just before the dead period started. Pushing him to come before the end of the month turned out to be the right call.
Tagliaferri talked to Mike Singer after the commitment announcement and said he pulled the trigger on Father’s Day. He added that it wasn’t the plan when he took the visit, but as things unfolded, he realized that the Irish were where he needed to be.

“I didn’t think about that at all,” he told Singer. “Just being there and spending time with Coach Gino [Guidugli], Coach Freeman, and everyone there — the feeling you get there is amazing. I stepped onto the field from the locker room, and I knew it was my time to commit there.”
Tagliaferri talked to his parents and got their blessing. In fact, they were more than a little happy about the situation. Then he spoke with the coaches and gave them the good news.
All of this shows that Notre Dame’s latest commitment came together incredibly quickly. In the end, the speed with which they landed Trey Tagliaferri doesn’t take away from the fact that they landed one of the best quarterbacks in the class. A recruiting heater that has the Irish near the top of the rankings in the 2027 class has gotten them off to a great start for 2028 as well.
