When Marcus Shrewsberry took over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish basketball team, he made it clear that winning might not come right away. He was right about that as his squad struggled mightily at times last season.

However, the former Penn State head coach might make progress quicker than expected. While his group might still struggle in the 2024-2025 season, a very talented player will be bringing reinforcements next season thanks to Phillips Exeter Academy’s Ryder Frost, who committed to the Blue and Gold on Friday. Here’s why Frost’s commitment is massive.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish go from zero to three in five days

When this week started, the Irish didn’t have a single commit in the 2025 class. Now they have three. It’s like the dominos started falling when Brady Koehler pulled the trigger. He was the first commit of the week.

Two days later, Jalen Haralson, the 5-star guard also committed to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Koehler and Haralson are both Indiana prospects so while getting them both is a coup, it’s not that unusual. However, pulling in Frost is not only a nice get as far as talent goes, but is a little more impressive since he’s from Massachusetts. Shrewsberry now has three commits for the 2025 class.

Notre Dame is right at the top

While it might be short-lived as other 4 and 5-star prospects pull the trigger over the next few months, Shrewsberry is currently boasting the top-ranked 2025 in the country according to Rivals.

That has them higher than Kentucky, Ole Miss, Alabama, Houston and of course many others. That’s a big deal for a team that didn’t even have a postseason beyond the ACC Tournament last year.

Marcus Freeman helped out

One of the most interesting parts of all three of the commitments this week is that they checked out the Notre Dame football game last weekend. Marcus Freeman did what he could to land the likes of Ryder Frost and help out Marcus Shrewsberry.

Looks like the Notre Dame Fighting Irish basketball team owns the football coach a thank you.
