It’s been a little while since the Notre Dame Fighting Irish football team had a big commitment. That dry spell is almost over. And when it ends, there’s going to be some extra special satisfaction among many Irish fans.

4-star safety JaDon Blair is set to announce his commitment on July 5, allowing some fans to celebrate Indepedence Day just a little bit longer. Especially if you happen to be the Notre Dame football team where independence is so important you won’t even join a conference.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish have long been thought to have the inside track on Blair, though there were some indications the Michigan Wolverines were making up ground. That momentum - if it was ever there - appears to have petered out as even a Michigan recruiting analyst now predicts that Blair will pick Marcus Freeman’s crew as his landing spot.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish get to add insult to injury with 4-star commit

EJ Holland, who used to be a Notre Dame recruiting analyst with On3 long ago jumped ship to the Wolverines. He appears to have taken a bit of a grudge with him, even going so far as calling Fighting Irish recruits “weird” in one message board post that blew up last month.

However, Holland has also entered the latest prediction for Blair to end up in South Bend.

That prediction follows other recent experts who have all put in RPM predictions for the Golden Domers to pick up one of the best safeties in the entire 2025 class.

Should those predictions come true, it would be a big boost for a program that hasn’t nabbed a commitment since Mark Zackery’s back on May 25. That dry spell has led to ND falling all the way to 6th in the latest On3 ratings. They’re at about the same ranking on Rivals and 247Sports.

That it also means the Notre Dame Fighting Irish also fought off teams like Penn State and Michigan is just icing on the cake.
