Notre Dame football could celebrate Independence Day with 4-star commit

While Notre Dame football could technically be getting a commitment from a 4-star DB on July 5, it would just mean the celebration would carry over.

Independence Day always means a little something different for Notre Dame football. This year, they might get to celebrate it a day longer than normal as they wait for one of their top targets to pull the trigger on a commitment.

Earlier this weekend, Jay Blair, the father of 4-star defensive back JaDon Blair announced his son is ready to announce where he’ll be playing his college ball. The Mount Tabor safety is pulling the trigger on the afternoon of July 5.

The announcement timing means there could be some more fireworks going off in South Bend, as Blair has long been thought to be a lean to the Notre Dame football team

While the Fighting Irish certainly feel like they’re sitting pretty, it’s worth pointing out that other power conference teams have been chipping away at their lead. In the tweet announcing the commitment date, the elder Blair made it clear that there are still plenty of teams in the running.

It appears that JaDon Blair will be choosing between Michigan, Virginia Tech, South Carolina, Florida State, Penn State, Louisville and of course, Notre Dame.

The Wolverines have been the team that has made the hardest push over the last few weeks and could be considered the big rival for the safety’s services. However, for now the Irish are said to have still offered the North Carolina 4-star prospect the best look.

Blair’s announcement comes amid a ton of recruits all looking to shut down their recruitments. Commits have been coming fast and furiously at the end of June and will continue coming into the early part of July.

Part of that is because dead periods have started and that means that players can be left alone with their thoughts. Notre Dame football has to hope that when JaDon Blair sits down with his thoughts, they keep turning to South Bend. We’ll find out next Friday.
