Notre Dame football faces new challenge keeping top defensive back commit
It looks as though the Notre Dame football team might have another commit it needs to worry about keeping in the fold. If the Deuce Knight soap opera wasn’t enough, it might be time to buckle up for weekly updates on whether Ivan Taylor is headed elsewhere.
Ivan Taylor committed to the Irish back in April, but almost since that moment, he’s been looking around to see if there might be a better fit. The defensive back commit has had a bit of a wandering eye, especially with the SEC.
However, it’s worth pointing out that Taylor is still a commitment to the Notre Dame football team. He was in fact, in South Bend this weekend to get another feel for where he can fit with Marcus Freeman and company. But that doesn’t mean he’s shutting down his recruitment.
Notre Dame football commit is checking out fit with Irish
"(The visit) was good,” Taylor told Irish Breakdown about his trip to see the Fighting Irish. "Getting to be around Deuce (Knight) and all the commits was a great experience. It was a good little vibe. That was my first time around some of them. They’re a great group of guys and fun to be around.”
Taylor also talked to the ND coaches about his feelings these days.
"The conversations with the staff were all great,” the 4-star commit explained. "We got a chance to really talk about my situation and both understand it from the other's perspective. It’s something I believe I need to do for me and my family. It’s obviously a big decision and I’m evaluating all options.”
The “evaluating all options” comment isn’t going to sit well with some Notre Dame fans. It actually feels as though he’s closer to moving on than Deuce Knight is. This is going to be something to watch over the next few weeks and months.
Next up for Taylor is an official visit to Michigan. There might be other visits in the works as well. That Notre Dame is aware these are going on and still consider him a member of their recruiting class tells us just how important landing Taylor is when National Signing Day rolls around. Buckle up.
