Notre Dame football knew that when they ran into Kyle Field, it was going to sound like the entire state of Texas was against them. But did they realize a United States Senator would be openly rooting against them?

Did they know he’d be issuing a warning? Considering that no politician has ever missed an opportunity to pretend they’re a fan of a team as long as a camera is on, yeah, the Irish probably knew Ted Cruz was going to have something to say about Saturday’s tilt.

Cruz appeared a few hours before the Aggies knocked heads with Notre Dame football and gave his assessment of what was going to happen. Unsurprisingly, he thought his team would win.

“You know, I'll tell you,” Cruz began. “I was here at Kyle Field three years ago when the Aggies whipped Alabama, even though they were the number one team. This place went nuts. The entire stadium rushed the field. It was incredible.”

Notre Dame football doesn’t want to get whipped

Cruz went on to say that he hoped he saw something similar against the Fighting Irish.

“I hope we get some similar karma tonight,” he continued. “I will tell you, I've told all my good friends from Notre Dame, I said, you guys are going to have an amazing time down in College Station. You're going to come down. Everyone's going to be kind. Everyone's going to be gracious. They're going to welcome you with a smile. We're going to whip your a–. We'll send you back to South Bend very graciously and very kindly. And so I'm looking forward to that happening.”

We’ll see how Notre Dame football responds to the challenge. It might be even more fun to show a US Senator that he was big wrong about what he expected to see on Saturday night.
